Machi Ishida

Machi Ishida began piano lessons with her mother at the age of 3, and at age 9 she began learning the marimba.

Until the age of 15, Ishida performed approximately 90 concerts per year in Japan as a member of the Hiroshima Junior Marimba Ensemble. At 12 years old, Ishida and a duo partner won the Espoir Award in the general duo category in the 7th Osaka International Music Competition, as the youngest winners in its history. In 2021, she achieved 4th place at the 8th Universal Marimba Competition Belgium and won “Best Performance of Belgian Works”. In 2022, she won 1st Prize at the 7th World Marimba Competition Stuttgart. She also won “Special Prize Best Performance (Set Piece, Final Round) and the “Audience Award” making her the first person to win three awards at one time.
