Emil Kuyumcuyan

Percussionist and composer Emil Kuyumcuyan was born in Istanbul in 1993 and has Croatian, Greek, Armenian and African roots. As a young percussion student he attended both the Mumar Sinan Istanbul State Conservatory and the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart.

Besides touring around the world as both a solo percussionist and as a guest performer with ensembles such as Orchestre Nationale de France, Kuyumcuyan continuously gives masterclasses internationally, and throughout the years he has shared his artistic expertise with institutes such as Emesp São Paulo in Brazil and Tchaikovsky Conservatory Moscow in Russia.

Since 2021 he has been employed at the Royal Northern College of Music in England as a visiting tutor in snare drum. Last year Kuyumcuyan also won first prize at the Tromp International Percussion Competition. And as an active composer he has previously received commissions from the prestigious IPEA Competition Shanghai and the Philharmonic Cologne.
